Computer Services, Support, and Repair
I offer computering services in the Rapid City area to individuals and small businesses. I price my services at flat or hourly rates - whichever the client prefers. I am well versed in Microsoft, Apple, and Linux based software products.
It is important to me to keep prices as low as possible while still providing a valuable service to my customers. My fee rates are a fraction of what other local computer shops charge because I have little overhead and don't believe certain, simple things should demand the premium that many repair shops place on them.
I do the job right the first time; I'm honest and upfront about what should be done, and what it will cost. My rates are very competitive with the other local IT service operations in the area.
The prices outlined below are not actual prices. They are guidelines - price estimates based on the normal time required to resolve an issue.
General Fee - $35-55/hour
The billing rate is determined by the type of work being performed. Business
rates are at the higher end of the scale. All rates are discussed and agreed
upon before I start to work so that there are no surprises.
Basic Malware Disinfection
Malware takes many forms in today's computing environment demanding a number of
removal approaches. Traditional antivirus software does not usually detect a
large variety of modern malware, as their techniques for detecting viruses do
not work well against the more intelligent worms and trojans of today.
Simple ( for up to two computers ) - $40
Extended ( for three to eight computers ) - $60
System Troubleshooting
Occasionally a computer will be buggy, glitchy, or slow for a number of reasons
not caused by malware. These problems usually require a person to
systematically eliminate potential causes, possibly sifting through system
settings and logs in the process.
Windows Reinstall
There are situations where a Windows system will be so badly compromised by
malware that a reinstall of Windows can be cheaper and more effective.
Reinstalling Windows will also often improve the system's performance due to a
refresh of the registry and filesystem.
Improving Security and Performance
On any computer system, there are many small enhancements and configuration
changes which can be performed to squeeze a little more performance out of
computing hardware, and many things which can be done to help harden a system
against threats.
Backup and Recovery Plan Formulation
So that you do not run into a situation where your important data no longer
exists, it is important to have a backup plan – and follow it. I will assess
all sources of important information and provide your organization with a
solution that fits your hardware needs. I can also verify whether existing
backup procedures and document them to assure that your data remains available
when needed.
Data Recovery
If you have lost files already, I should be able to help - depending on the
severity of the failure that resulted in the lost data. (It is very important
that you do not continue to use a computer from which you intend to recover
files!)
Small-Medium Network Administration
I am an experienced systems and network administrator: I am well versed with
Windows Server and Linux, as well as a full range of best practices in the
maintenance` of a healthy computing environment. Tasks in this area include
automation, integration, upgrading, research, and any other cursory task or
procedure.
User Training and Instruction
With computers, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of reaction. Training
and instructing people can be a great way to improve a user's confidence and
productivity in routine tasks by impressing sound computing practices. This
also helps reduce potentially disastrous risks brought on by unfamiliarity.
Site Documentation
Missing documentation on what your organization's computing assets are, or
haven't kept a thorough record of your licenses? I will survey your network and
provide detailed information on what you have (hardware and software), what is
missing (such as licensing information), as well as a synopsis with notes on
items which require more attention.
Business Computing Assessment
An infrastructure assessment includes a thorough survey of your organization's
computing environment: hardware, software, and policy. I will also review with
you - the owner or operator - as well as with the individual employees any
perceived shortcomings, concerns, or desires relating to your organization's
computing infrastructure. I will review with everyone what they feel they need
to get their job done most effectively; I will observe people using their
computers to see if business process might be improved. Finally, there will
be a thorough inspection of the hardware and software of each individual computer.
Upon completion of the inspection and assessment, you will receive the following in the inspection report documentation:
- A thorough description of your current computing assets
- Documentation of existing technical problems, as gathered from employees and inspection
- Recommendations based on gathered information to help keep your organization efficient
- The recommendations received will be of both long and short-term scope: things which need to be dealt with soon, and things which need to be planned for in the coming months and years.
- Documented small network inspection (up to 5 computers): $175
- Documented medium network inspection (6-10 computers): $310
- Documented large network inspection (11 or more): $130 plus $50 per inspection hour
